Read the first two tests in this webpage (A mason's craft and Soaring monuments) and aswer the questions. You have 40 minutes for this task.

Comprehension Part 1: A Mason's Craft

1.- Read the first part of the text. Decide if these statements are TRUE or FALSE. Correct the FALSE ones. (0,25 each T/F and 0,75 each explanation)

• Masons were skilled monks and priests

• Masons usually had an extensive knowledge of maths, physics and architecture

PABLOPICASSO

On 25 October, 1881, a baby boy was born/born in Malaga, Spain. It was a difficult birth and to help him breathe, cigar smoke was blown/blew into his nose! This baby was grown up/grew up to be one of the twentieth century's greatest painters – Pablo Picasso. Picasso was showing/showed his genius from a very young age. His first word was lápiz (Spanish for pencil) and he could draw before he could talk. He was the only son in the family, so he was thoroughly spoiled. He had hated/hated school and often had refused/refused to go unless he allowed/was allowed to take one of his father's pet pigeons with him! Apart from pigeons, his great love was art. When in 1891 his father was getting/got a job as an art teacher, Pablo often had gone/went with him to work and was watching/watched him paint. Sometimes he allowed/was allowed to help. One evening, his father was painted/was painting a picture of their pigeons when he was having/had to leave the room. When he had returned/returned, Pablo had completed/completed the picture.
